Kings of War Elf Army - Bowman Regiment

Next in my elf army for Kings of War is the first regiment of bowmen.

I've followed the same colour scheme as the bolt throwers and scouts, but this time I had to do some shields.

There are a lot of shields on the Mantic Elves and they are a distinctive part of the miniature. There is little to no pattern on the sculpt so I had two choices really. Find a quick and effective design to hand paint on or find a transfer.

Kings of War Elf Army - Scouts

So next up a unit of scouts.

Now the colour scheme is decided these were a doddle.

Next it's on to a unit of bowmen...

Kings of War Elf Army - Bolt Throwers

My project for the first part of 2015 is an Elf army for Kings of War. I'd like to get some of this ready for use at the game we have planned at the Hammerhead show at the end of February.

I've collected around 2000 points of models so far concentrating on core regiments of Spearmen and Bowmen, with a couple of troops of Scouts and a couple troops of Drakons as fast troops, along with some Bolt Throwers. I'll also re-use the Forest Shamblers and Treeman from my Force of Nature Army.

You'll note I have no cavalry. This is because I've not too keen on elves on horses and my theme is a force of elves from a wooded and mountainous region where horses are not so useful.

With that in mind I've gone for a autumnal theme with greens, yellows and browns. I've started off with the three bolt throwers as these gave me chance to try out the colours without committing to too many troops at one time.

These are now complete...

Next up is the first troop of scouts, You can see them just at the top of the photo.

Dreadball Xtreme

At the end of November I picked up the first part of my Dreadball Xtreme Kickstarter reward from the Mantic Open Day. I managed to have a quick look at it, before most of it was taken away and wrapped for Christmas.

Inbetween then and the 25th I managed to grab a single game with Justin who had managed to arrange not to have his taken from him for wrapping. We had a great game, but I came away with the decision that the models really needed to be painted before we played again.

So when the game arrived at Christmas I very quickly started work on painting it up. I needed to work fast as I also received a load of Mantic Elves and Perry War of the Roses, the former of which I want to include in the big KoW we have planned at Hammerhead 2015 at the end of February.

Anyway the first thing that was painted up was the scenery and then it was on to the Kalyshi team and their sponsor Blaine.

Next up came the other team in the box, the Convicts and their sponsor, the Warden.

COGS Kings of War Big Game Dec 2014

Today was the COGS/GCN bash at the Sanctuary Gaming Centre. We'd been wanting to play a big game for some time and this was our chance. We managed to put together around 9500 points per side with Dwarves, Nature and Men versus Undead, Orcs and Twilight Kin.

Mantic December Painting Oath Progress

Over on the Mantic Madness Facebook page there is a month challenge. At the start of each month members of the group pledge to paint any number of models they choose. As long as the models are going to be used in a Mantic game they can be anything. At the end of the month they must have posted photos of the painted models. If they have they are declared an Oathkeeper, if not they are declared an Oathbreaker.

This month I've been painting 9 Mantic Ogres. As with previous months I was careful to not bite off more than I could manage, but I was quite amazed to get these done as quickly as I have. There seemed to be so much detail. But as usual once I've broken the back of a paint job the remainder flows very quickly to completion.

The Ogres will be used in my Kings of Men army for Kings of War.

Here are a few photos:

Kings of War Game from a couple of weeks ago

A couple of weeks ago I played a game of Kings of War using my Dark Ages Kings of Men army against my son's Undead horde. Finally I get around to loading the images...

As you can see it's still early days with the painting of his army but what he has got done looks great. I of course helped quite a bit. :)

The game was just a simple "Kill" game without any objectives. In the end we got a draw.

In the first turn my army advances. My knights and Griffon on the left flank counter his Revenant Cavalry and two Spear Phalanx. On the other flank the house produces a bottleneck with the zombie horde proceeding very slowly forward.
