I managed to get the two Sherman/Firefly Troops completed over the last couple of days. Now everything is ready for the battle tomorrow.
The US Paras are ones that my friend Tony Barnes painted. He passed away almost exactly 2 years ago. It's always good to get some use out the armies I have of his.

Flames of War British Armoured Car Company
Sometime last year I got an imcredibly cheap deal on a Flames of War Open Fire set. Since I already have a lot of German stuff I sold that on to a friend and kept than US Paras and British tanks for myself.
I looked through the Market Garden and Overlord books for a company to build them into and settled on something a bit different. 2nd Household Cavalry Armoured Car Company.
I searched around for suitable armoured car models and settled on Skytrex as they were inexpensive, good and most importantly, actually available. The Battlefront ones always seem to be out of stock. The armoured cars arrived before Christmas and were put away as a present from my wife.
Anyway, with a Flames game coming up this weekend thought I'd like to try these out so I've been rapidly painting them up. Here are the HQ ( 2 Staghound A/C) and 2 Reconnaissance troops (2 Daimler I A/C and a Daimler Dingo).

Flames of War Plastic SU100 and SU85
It's been a long time since I painted anything for my Flames of War armies and I've had a box of Plastic Soviet Tank Killers (SBX31) sat part finished on the shelf for a long time.
So I finally got round to completing them ready for a game on Monday.
... "But, you said you only had one box of Tank Killers, there's only 5 in that box and you have 10 tanks there!!!"

Flames of War - Son Bridge - After Action Report
Today we played the "Son Bridge", Flames of War game that we've had planned for a few weeks now.
This took place at the Sanctuary Gaming Centre in Sutton-in-Ashfield and we had 6 players on a 12ft x 4ft table with 4,500 points of British, 4,500 points of German and 2,600 points of US airborne.
The US troops started dug in around the Son Bridge, The paratroopers were on the north side of the river and the Glider Troops on the south side. They faced off against a German force of the 107th Panzer Brigade, consisting mainly of Panthers.

Big Flames of War D-Day Game... 2011
So trawling through my old photos I found another gem of a big game. This one was a Flames of War D-Day landings battle which we played in 2011.
It took place over two 12 foot by 4 foot tables. One table represented the beaches and a small town and the other an inland area suitable for airborne landings. Troops could travel off one table onto the other along defined roads.
If I remember right, the allies didn't manage to complete the required objectives in time. The airborne troops suffered from being mis-dropped and under heavy fire and the amphibious landings were stalled by German resistance. After a day's play it was decided that the Axis forces had won victory.

Early War Flames of War game at COGS.
The Flames of War game on Monday was an early war battle between my Soviet Fast Tank Battalion and Martin's British Rifles.
At first glance this would seem a silly match up. But in fact if Churchill had got his way it could have happened. He wanted to send assistance to the Finns in order to resist the Soviet offensive but wasn't allowed to.
The game was No Retreat and was a close run thing. We ran out of time but at the end I had units in the objective and still quite a few of my tanks were active. I'd started with 25 in total.
A high point for me was when my massive infantry company finally managed to cross the hill just in front of the closest objective.
Backgound image... Soviet Horde!
I struggled to find a background image for the blog and in the end thought that a nice image of my Flames of War Soviet horde would be good. This was from a few years ago and I've extended the army quite dramatically since then.
Here it is more clearly in order that it can be viewed better.
